This study tracks changes to diverse habitats across Asia between the years 850-2015 using Asian elephants as a flagship indicator species. It finds that nearly two thirds (64%) of suitable habitat has been lost since the 1700s, concurrent with colonial-era land-use practices as well as subsequent agricultural intensification.
